Developing a wireless networking stack and embedded software
Demand for wireless connectivity of devices is increasing due to the advantages of energy savings, easy retrofits and plug & play technology for smart home and office automation. Despite multiple wireless LAN standards and data security threats, wireless connectivity is driving the Internet of Things (IoT) by providing secure and reliable control, monitoring and communication for edge devices.
Mindteck engaged with a multinational smart home and building automation company which excels in control systems, audio and video distribution, lighting control, Building Management Systems (BMS) and Enterprise Management Systems (EMS). Their hardware devices required networking software with reliable communication and IoT security features. In order for the devices to perform under various operating scenarios, Mindteck provided appropriate network topology with real-time operation and embedded software applications.
The project scope of this engagement included:
Developing a wireless networking stack and embedded software for various types of devices including, but not limited to:
Battery- and Mains-powered Keypads,
Battery-powered Daylight, Occupancy and Vacancy Sensors.
Development for a Network Bridge – providing the ability for multiple room/section systems to be monitored and controlled by a centralized client control system.
Integration and system testing under various operating scenarios.
Support during any certification of the devices.
Over almost the past three decades, Mindteck has often engaged with clients as an extended engineering team to support the product introduction process and various phases of the product lifecycle. In this regard, deployment scenarios were defined to ensure reliable, real-time operation and compliance with standards to meet the delivery commitment – all in keeping with Mindteck’s quality project engineering processes.
Our team implemented ZigBee wireless stack and embedded software applications in compliance with the home automation (HA) profile, and deployed system integration and testing automation processes so that all features were tested and validated. Solution components included ZigBee mesh networking, Embedded C, compliance and regulatory systems, integration and functional testing, and test automation.
Project delivery was completed expeditiously owing to Mindteck’s niche knowledge and expertise in wireless stacks and connectivity.
In collaboration with the client, Mindteck enhanced various features of the devices for conversion to new generation products.
During the post-release and warranty, Mindteck provided extended support.
